Questions to Discuss or Ponder:

  1. What rituals or practices do you have that are defining for you or your family? What things have to happen every year?
  2. Why is memory vital to who we are? What happens when someone loses memories?
  3. What role does “community” play in maintaining memory?
  4. In what way(s) did Jesus change the traditional Passover meal? How does he change the focus?
  5. What does each name (Lord’s Supper, Communion, Eucharist) signify about this practice we share?
  6. Do you/we take communion too lightly? Do the problems of the Corinthians plague us as well? Why or why not?
  7. Why is communion more about “we” than “me”?
  8. In what way does communion help you “remember who you are”?

Four whole days of basking in the unity and the camaraderie that the Olympics are known for. The world comes together for these games to compete in a wide variety of sports and demonstrate that we can get along, at least for a couple of weeks. World leaders usually attend, too, and one of the prominent attendees in Beijing was Russian president Vladimir Putin. All eyes were on Putin because his army had been establishing itself along the border with Ukraine. And four days after the Olympics were over, that army moved.
