The First Christian (Study Guide)

 “The First Christian”

Sermon Study Guide for April 2, 2023

Downloadable Version

Scripture: Mark 14:1-11

The difference of three days…

1. Mary

formal meal at Simon’s house

nard…

Jesus “sees” Mary…

2. Judas

betrayal…

“thief” - John 12:6

3. The Choice…

Questions to Discuss or Ponder:

  1. By Wednesday, the cheers of the crowd seemed a long way away. How do you think the disciples were handling this busy week?
  2. What is your “nard”? What is something valuable you could give to Jesus? What holds you back?
  3. How do you think it would feel to be anointed with perfume in this way?
  4. Why does Jesus jump to Mary’s defense so quickly?
  5. Why is Mary’s story to be told wherever the Gospel is preached?
  6. Who do you often overlook? How can you learn to “see” them?
  7. What images and feelings does the name “Judas” bring up? Why?
  8. Why do you think Judas chose to betray Jesus? Have you ever had someone you trusted “betray” you?
  9. Which path (Mary or Judas) are you on? Which path do you want to be on this Holy Week?

Tuesday - Mark 11:20-33
