  1. From what you know of ancient Israel’s history, why would a grapevine be a good symbol for that nation?
  2. Why do we tend to react negatively to the word “spirituality”?
  3. What things (or people) do you find being worshipped in our world today? How is worshipping those things (or people) dangerous to our soul?
  4. What does the image of pruning say to you? Can you recall a time when you felt like you were being pruned? Share as you feel comfortable.
  5. When you think of someone “abiding,” what comes to mind? Where do you tend to “abide”?
  6. How does it affect your spirituality to know that Jesus calls you a friend? What does Jesus expect of his friends?
  7. Which spiritual disciplines have been most helpful in your faith journey? What new one do you need to add?
