“First Focus”
Sermon Study Guide for April 8, 2018

Scripture: Matthew 6:5-15

Everyone prays…

  1. The Lord’s Prayer
Jewish & Gentile Prayer

“Teach us to pray…”

A framework…

Myths about prayer

2. Praying the Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven…

Hallowed be thy name…

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven…

Give us this day our daily bread…

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us…

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil…
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.

Questions to Discuss or Ponder:

  2. What questions or struggles do you have when it comes to prayer?
  3. What has been your pattern of prayer up to this point? Are you satisfied with your prayer life? Why or why not?
  4. Why do we tend to believe “myths” about prayer (like using many words or getting many people to pray)? What’s wrong with those myths?
  5. How will you practice praying the Lord’s prayer?
