Questions to Discuss or Ponder:

  1. Do you ever get distracted? In what situations are you most likely to be distracted from your tasks?
  2. What things most distract you from prayer?
  3. What are the modern equivalents of Elijah’s wind, earthquake and fire? What “things” or occurrences do we pay more attention to than God’s voice?
  4. Why, do you think, does God speak with such a quiet whisper?
  5. In what ways can you relate to the couple walking back to Emmaus, disappointed after Jesus’ death? When have you felt like them?
  6. Why do you think they were “kept from recognizing” Jesus on the road to Emmaus?
  7. Which of the three types of distractions mentioned do you struggle with the most when you want to listen to God?
  8. What do you need to do this week to help overcome the distractions that challenge you?
