Questions to Discuss or Ponder:

  1. Recall what you know about the story of Job. What does it and what does it not tell us about pain?
  2. Why do we want answers to the question of pain and suffering? What places do people today turn to in order to try to find answers?
  3. Try to put yourself in Job’s place. How would all of his loss affect him? Would it help had he known the heavenly context?
  4. Recall a time when God used pain, sickness or struggle to shape your character. How did that time make you more like Jesus?
  5. Which do we want most: answers or God?
  6. Why is silence so healing in times of pain or suffering?
  7. How is sickness a sign of God’s favor?
