Questions to Discuss or Ponder:

  1. What sorts of things do you think Joshua hoped to learn about Jericho from the spies?
  2. How does it affect your view of Rahab if she was an innkeeper at the edge of town?
  3. Why was Rahab justified in not telling the “truth” to the king’s men?
  4. What two words do the spies promise to live out toward Rahab and her family? What do those two words tell you about the God the spies served?
  5. Why does the author emphasize the color of the cord? What does the imagery of the scarlet cord say to you?
  6. Why does God give the Israelites such odd instructions for conquering Jericho? What do these instructions tell us about God?
  7. Who are the “rahabs” in your world? How will you approach them this week?
