Questions for Discussion and Reflection

  1. Picture the Last Supper in your mind. What emotions and thoughts are running through the hearts and minds of those who are there? How does that affect what happens?
  2. What images must have come to the disciples’ minds when Jesus mentioned a vine?
  3. What does it mean that branches must sometimes be “cut off”? How does that apply in our lives?
  4. What is involved in “pruning” a vine? Why is that important? What does that have to do with our spiritual lives?
  5. Recall a time when you felt you were being pruned. What happened? What was the result?
  6. What difference does it make in pruning to remember that God is the gardener (15:1)?
  7. What does it mean to “bear fruit”? How is this evidence of our connection to Jesus, the vine?
  8. How do you plan to begin bearing more fruit and staying more connected to the vine?
