  1. What is empathy? How would you define it? Why does vulnerability depend on empathy?
  2. When have you experienced someone who was empathetic? What happened?
  3. In what ways does our current world work against the practice of empathy?
  4. What does it mean if someone has “complete integrity”? Have you known someone you would describe like that?
  5. Why do we tend to be more like Mrs. Job?
  6. Which of the “enemies of empathy” are you more likely to engage in? Why?
  7. How does “bad theology hurt people”?
  8. In what way(s) can you be better at “rejoicing with those who rejoice” and “weeping with those who weep”?
  9. Why is empathy not the same as “unqualified acceptance”? What is the difference?

Job 2:11-13 May 18, 2025 • Mount Pleasant UMC Well, it’s been an interesting year so far, but I am glad to be back in the pulpit today. I appreciate Pastor Rick jumping in to help with an extra week of preaching and all the other things, and I have appreciated all the calls and texts and messages and “Facebook likes” and chai tea lattes that have come my way. It has been quite a journey, one that is not over yet as there is yet another surgery in my near future, but I have appreciated the care that has come my way.
